Electric discharge machining

Lupe

A Charmilles Robofil 240 wire electric discharge machine at the lab's disposal. This machine enables electric discharge machining with cuts at 90° to the X-Y plane, as well as angling of the erosion wire for creating undercuts. A workpiece rotation module enables the eroding of complete circular cuts with stationary wire and central workpiece clamping.

Polishing

Lupe

Polishing is a method for machining fine surfaces. Depending on the material, optical surfaces with roughness down to Ra = 1 to 2 nm can be achieved. The polishing machine used was developed in-house with components from Stähli Läpp Technik AG.

Lapping

Lupe

Lapping is a surface machining method using loose grains distributed in a liquid, and a usually shape-transferring counterpart with the cutting paths of the individual grains as disordered as possible. This results in a rolling grain movement on the workpiece, which leads to the lapping of characteristic surface structures and hardening. Optical surfaces with roughness of Ra = 1 to 2 nm can be manufactured. The lapping machine used was developed in-house with components from Stähli Läpp Technik AG.
